Pardon me for not blogging alot gang but for the past 8 months I’ve spent every month siccing lawyers on major corporations for screwing up six ways to Sunday.
I work with many attorneys and have so for decades. I’ve got an army of lawyers and judges and prosecutors as friends and family and it’s just one of those ‘American Way’ type of things.
I was schooled in law at a very early age and it’s smart to have that knowledge in your quiver during life’s slings and arrows.
So the past 8 months in particular I’ve had to spend the better part of two weeks per month in some form of action regarding legals and major corporations. From computer corporations to major chain restaurants to software I’ve had to catch the most underhanded business practices and criminal nonsense I’ve ever had to deal with on a petty basis. These companies basically tried not only to rip me off but you too! I’m not the kind of guy who sits on his butt when evil is afoot and I went full throttle after these guys. I was taught long ago to do one’s due diligence with such efficiency that a courtroom confrontation would be unlikely. Sure enough all actions this past year resulted in me winning and them losing and you the consumer being one better.
The problem with American law is the ‘out of court settlement’ thing. Companies and corporations commit any number of heinous crimes and if you catch them and they settle out of court they just right back doing some other sinister act waiting for the next stalwarth soul to come along and nab them. Part of the settlement is to keep things quiet. I don’t settle out of court. I’ll go with a quiet settlement ( avoiding slamming you guys with all the Latin term mumbo jumbo ) if the terms say to me the company won’t do it again and will engage in practices that make things right.
Why would a cartoonist spend their time in this? It’s because cartoonists and comic book artists as with most artists are constantly under attack by greedy scumbags who’ll stoop to no end to undermine them. Ever see the movie “Amadeus” about the life of Amadeus Mozart? Prime example.
Too many artists lay on their butts waiting for someone to ‘discover’ them and kiss their butts and then when things don’t go right the artist can’t fend for themselves. How difficult is it to take a course in legals? Artists have to be responsible for their own lives and careers and not dependent on others. A thorough study of business and law are essential for survival.
I’m thinking of putting up a website just for artists with legal problems. I’ll bet you after one week of that site being up I’d get an offer from several studios offering me some money to shut it down.
Watch your back.
