This news hit me like a thunderbolt. Dave Stevens has to have been the most outstanding and unique artist in the comics field in the past 30 years. He had class and style that gave tribute to the nostalgic and the new age. He was most famous however for his brilliant illustrations of pin-up queen Betty Page.
Stevens also was the creator of the hit comic book The Rocketeer which was made into a major motion picture. I met Dave only once or twice but he was very encouraging to me. A real gem of a chap and for him to pass on at such an early age is devastating. His artwork and books are must haves.
I’m fighting my own dangerous illness and didn’t know about Dave. Then here I am making out wills and what-not and I hear this news. A real tragedy for sure.
